SILKAIR BEGINS FLIGHTS TO HYDERABAD

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, commenced operations to Hyderabad today. For a start, SilkAir will operate five flights a week between Singapore and this city in Andhra Pradesh, India. The flight frequency will be stepped up to daily services from 20 October 2009.

The inaugural flight, MI 478, took off from Singapore Changi Airport at 1655 hours and will land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad at 1900 hours today, where a special launch ceremony will be held (all times local).

Customers on the flight were given special inaugural flight souvenirs. To commemorate the occasion, there will be a water cannon salute to welcome the aircraft as it taxies to the arrival gate.

SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Mr. Chin Yau Seng, who is on the inaugural flight, will be given a special welcome by the local airport authorities.

"Our five times weekly, and later daily, flights between Singapore and Hyderabad will offer convenient connections for our regional and international customers. We hope that this, in turn, will help to facilitate the growth and development of business and tourism in both countries," said Mr. Chin.

Termed the ‘City of Pearls’, Hyderabad has become the one-stop destination for pearls. There is an entire street consisting of pearl shops named Patther Gatti. It is also home to two significant historical landmarks – the Charminar and Golconda Fort. A sprawling metropolis, Hyderabad also offers vast business potential as an IT and Biotechnology hub and houses numerous Fortune 500 corporations.

Besides Hyderabad, SilkAir also flies to three other Indian destinations, namely Coimbatore, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

Details of flight numbers and flight schedules for services between Singapore and Hyderabad are shown in this attachment. For general information on flights, fares and schedules, please visit silkair.com.
