Influenza A (H1N1)

SilkAir continues to monitor closely the development of the Influenza A (H1N1) situation.

As part of its risk management programme, SilkAir has established contingency plans to handle such outbreaks . A set of measures has been established to ensure the well-being of both our customers and staff.

SilkAir would like to assure our customers that procedures are in place to ensure the highest level of hygiene onboard our flights. The airline has also alerted cabin crew and ground staff to look out for customers who appear unwell and assist them to seek immediate medical attention. Emergency kits comprising surgical masks, gloves and thermometers are available on board for use should the need arise.

In addition, SilkAir provides all staff with regular updates on the Influenza A (H1N1) situation via the internal staff website, and has advised our pilots, cabin crew and ground staff to monitor their temperatures on a daily basis.

Cabin crew who have been on flights where an Influenza A (H1N1) confirmed case is found, will be stepped down from duty for seven days from the day of the flight.

SilkAir’s task force comprising representatives from the various divisions will continue to work closely with the government authorities to co-ordinate the implementation of relevant measures.

Since 26 April 2009, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has implemented precautionary measures at Singapore Changi Airport. Thermal scanners have been deployed at the Arrival Halls of Terminal 1,2 and 3, as well as the Budget Terminal.

Customers with higher-than-normal temperatures will undergo a more thorough medical assessment.

These precautionary checks are non-intrusive and should have no impact on the time needed by passengers to clear the various airport processes.

Customers who are returning from affected areas are advised to monitor their temperature daily and check themselves for flu-like symptoms. They can continue with their normal routines if they are well. Those who develop symptoms of flu with fever (temperature higher than 38°C) within seven days after their return should put on a surgical mask and call 993. They should also disclose their travel histories to their doctors.
